"Dear Ms. Hermione Granger,

I grew up in a small town that reveled in ignorance and actively worked against learning in all forms, from its underfunded school system to its underpaid teachers, and its library that was collapsing around the stacks.

I’ve always thirsted for knowledge. All knowledge. I devoured new topics and read thousands and thousands of books. I’ve never had peers that were interested in the things that I was interested in. I never had friends that wanted to read and learn.

But I had you.

You bushy haired girl with big front teeth and an even bigger heart. It was like looking into a literary mirror. From the first time you bounced in your seat, eager to give an answer, I knew I had found myself in another person, and from that moment I knew I had found my closest and longest friend.

I have laughed with you and I have cried with you. You taught me that it was okay to love the things that I loved and it was okay to be who I am.

Today I am an adult. I am an academic and I’m studying in a field that people from that small town don’t even know exists. Because of you, I never faltered. I never wavered on my love of school and my love of knowledge.

Ms. Hermione Granger, thank you for being my friend. Thank you for teaching me invaluable lessons that have shaped who I am to this very day.

"I want to tell you guys about the first time I went to Hogwarts. It was very special because I was turning 15. In my culture, turning 15 is a pretty big deal because it symbolizes entering womanhood. My parents offered to throw me a big party, but I chose this. Why? Because it’s been part of most of my life. Ever since I was six, I grew up with this boy wizard, read his adventures, saw the movies, and now I got to live it. Even though I didn’t have a party with most of my friends, who cares? This is what matters most to me, not one night that I’ll probably forget later.

I spent days at WWOHP. It was amazing. I will never forget the aroma, how it felt, how every line said five minutes, how the taste of butterbeer was better than I expected, how the first time I received my wand my parents took a picture with me and the witch who gave it to me because it was an important moment. Outside, it was under 30 degrees and freezing cold, but I still stayed and rode everything without any lines.

It was magical, best way to turn 15, at the place that I practically grew up with. Thank you, Mr. Potter.

Jag kan inte annat än hålla med Juliet från Texas. Hon har lyckats skriva ner precis vad jag känner, och även skrivit hur svårt det är att förklara vad HP verkligen är och står för och vad jag känner för det.
